Regional and international food, excellent wines from Eger
By 2017 our wine tavern will have been opened for 30 years, our restaurant nearly 20, which both strive to serve our guests with the famous Hungarian and traditional Bükk-region hospitality.
From deer stew to chocolate mousse
We are waiting for you with such regional specialities as deer stew from Bükkalja with dried blueberries and porcini, or piquant deer ragout with forest mushrooms. Besides you can find the famous Hungarian dishes like the classical goulash soup or Somlói sponge cake.
You can also select from specialities of the Italian and French cuisine: would you taste a good plate of penne pasta with young spinach and gorgonzola cheese, and some chocolate mousse with fresh fruit?
Our restaurant, the Golden Lion has been awarded the Plaque of Patronage from the Hungarian National Alliance of Gastronomy, which means that it belongs to the professionally controlled and appreciated circle of Hungarian and international restaurants.
On the cozy terrace
It’s difficult to imagine a good lunch or dinner in Eger without a glass of wine: you can find in our restaurant the full selection of Thummerer wines, which has been awarded as the best and the most famous winery of Eger.
A cozy terrace belongs to the wine tavern in Little Dobó square, so you can admire the most beautiful sights sitting right in the centre of the city.
I have been raised in this atmosphere, I was eating these foods in my childhood. The Golden Lion Restaurant means the scent of home for me, and reminds me of my favourite dishes: the trout with herbs from Szalajka-valley, or the lemon cheesecake. If you visit us, we believe that you will feel something like this.
